List of current National Basketball Association head coaches

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a major professional basketball league in North America. The league was founded in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted its current name at the start of the when it merged with the National Basketball League (NBL). The league consists of 30 teams, of which 29 are located in the United States and one in Canada. In the NBA, a head coach is the highest ranking coach of a coaching staff. The list includes the date of hiring and the performance record of each coach.
Gregg Popovich has served as the San Antonio Spurs head coach for 19 seasons, longer than any other current head coach. Popovich has also coached the most games (1,492), won the most games (1,022), and lost the most games (470) among active coaches with their current team. Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra are the second longest-tenured head coaches, having been appointed as head coaches since the 2008–09 season. None of the active head coaches have been inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach.
All active head coaches are American. 15 coaches have spent their entire head coaching careers with their current teams: Mike Budenholzer with the Atlanta Hawks, Brad Stevens with the Boston Celtics, Steve Clifford with the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets, David Blatt with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Fred Hoiberg with the Chicago Bulls, Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors, Frank Vogel with the Indiana Pacers, David Joerger with the Memphis Grizzlies, Erik Spoelstra with the Miami Heat, Derek Fisher with the New York Knicks, Billy Donovan with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Brett Brown with the Philadelphia 76ers, Jeff Hornacek with the Phoenix Suns, Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs, and Quin Snyder with the Utah Jazz.
On December 15, 2014, the Sacramento Kings fired head coach Michael Malone and his lead assistant, Tyrone Corbin, was appointed as interim head coach. On February 5, 2015, the Orlando Magic fired head coach Jacque Vaughn, and his lead assistant, James Borrego, was appointed as interim head coach. On February 17, 2015, the Kings hired George Karl to replace Corbin. On March 3, 2015, the Denver Nuggets fired head coach Brian Shaw, and his assistant, Melvin Hunt, was appointed as interim head coach.
After the end of the 2014–15 regular season, the Oklahoma City Thunder fired head coach Scott Brooks and replaced him with former college coach Billy Donovan.〔〔
Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in August 2015. While Saunders had hoped to remain as Minnesota's head coach and president for the 2015–16 season, he died on October 25, 2015.
